H-A-P-P-Y—30-TH--B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y-- BONNIE!!!
Woo Hoo! I am 30 today! Bet-cha' can't guess what I got for my present??? I got a Medela Pump In Style® Traveler Breast pump. See, I told you… bet you didn’t guess that, did ya?
Breastfeeding Nora is something I want to do more than anything. I have read a lot about it and nothing compares to mommy-milk. :) The benefits of breastfeeding is the greatest gift I can giver her and no matter how hard it may be I am going to do my best to assure her that she has this nutrition for the first 6 months of her life if not longer.
I got two important phone calls today. The first call was from my Dad and brother Brian. They called first thing this morning and were singing Happy Birthday. :) They do that every year but this time I got to hear it LIVE and not recorded on the answering machine because I am home on maternity leave :)
Then, this afternoon, George McGowan, the plant manager from Monsanto called me at home to wish me a Happy Birthday. He also asked how my new daughter was and said that they missed me at work. What a great surprise!

One Month Milestone:
Nora is 4 weeks old today!
She learning all about her new environment using her eyes, her ears, her sense of smell and touch. Nora can lift her head up very good for her age. When you are holding her on your sholder she does very well... but during tummy time she doesn't like to hold it up at all. She just stares face down at the blanket and gets frustrated very quickly.
She can focus both eyes together. David loves to walk her around the house and show her all the many things to look at. Both of them favor the mirrors :)
Nora also can follow object that are about six inches above her face. She loves high contrast colors! Her black and white book is what she can see best.
Nora can hear us when we are around! She recognizes Mommy & Daddy's voices and respond by turning her head toward them.
Nora is a hand-holder. She grips your finger when you stroke her palm—part of her developing grasping reflex.
And her cutest trick right now, is that she turns toward your finger with her mouth wide open, when you rub a corner of her mouth. (rooting) She looks like a baby bird wiating for food. It is too cute!

Today we visited Dr. Nesbit's office just for a weight check. Nora isn't a big fan of being weighed. She does not like to get undressed - tool cold. Especially in their office! Burr!!
Exciting news - Nora has regianed her birth weight and now weighs 8 lbs!!! Mom was getting worried that if her wight wasn't up we would have to start supplementing formula... WHEW! Dr. Nesbit was well pleased with her gining 6 oz's in 7 days.
Next doctor's visit isn't until her 2 month check up. 8/25/04Comments:Add a comment:

Our A/C quit working yesterday afternoon!!! Thankfully my friend Traice (works @ MOnsanto) offerd her home to & Nora & I to go stay during the whole day Friday.
It was just what we needed too.... I got lots of much needed rest there!! Afterall, you aren't tempted to get up and start cleaning someone else's home or do their laundry. Dr's orders were for me not to do any house work for 6 weeks or lift anything heiver than the baby.... but I haven't been obeying Dr's orders lately.
Both NOra and I took naps today! My first time to actually get to just lay on the sofa all day. AAAAAaahhhhh! Thanks Tracie for offering us your home! :) Oh and even a BIGGER THANK YOU for hooking us up with Troy to fix our A/C for us!!! Love, BonnieComments:Add a comment:

Today we went for Nora's 2 week check up. Dr. Nesbit was back from vacation and saw us. Everything is going well with Nora..... however her cord is still attached. But at least this time they told us it actualy has potential of coming off. :) Last time we were being too careful with it and not getting down in there and giving it the good going over like we should.
She now weighs 7 lbs. 10 oz still needs to gain some more. Usually by 2 weeks babies weigh at least what they did at birth or more. But on the good side she has grown longer. She is now 20 ½".
We go back for just a weight check 7/15/04.Comments:Add a comment:

This year was our first year to watch the fireworks on TV. Bonnie's family left that morning on their way to visit family in North Carolina before returning to Kentucky... which left us home alone for the first time.
In years past we have always gone home to KY for the July 4th celebration. Campbellsville, our hometown, has activities from sun up to sun down. David's Aunt Connie has a home on the lake where we always go for good food and an awesome view of the fireworks.
We missed not being home with our families this year, but with a 2 week old we are sure you understand.
TV fireworks, didn't have any affect on Nora, but for Mom and Dad they just wen't the same... maybe we will be in Campbellsville for 2005?Comments:Add a comment:
